Treasures of Tuscany

The beautiful spa town of Montecatini is the perfect base from which to explore the many treasures that Tuscany has to offer. Our suggested itinerary includes visits to Tuscany’s best loved destinations including Lucca, San Gimignano, Siena and Pisa.

Tina says...
“With the most central location in the town, this hotel offers an elegant grandeur that befits this high end spa resort - try name spotting the famous visitors from the brass plaques which adorn the nearby Viale Verdi, from Audrey Hepburn to Marie Curie!”
Day 1 Arrival
This afternoon we arrive in Montecatini Terme where we check in to our hotel.

Day 2 Lucca 63km/39 mile round trip
After breakfast we make our way to Lucca, one of the oldest cities in Tuscany. It is home to a maze of narrow cobbled streets, beautiful churches and its unique oval piazza is the perfect place to relax with a cappuccino. Why not enjoy a lunch at the fabulous Trattoria Buralli? In the afternoon we can enjoy a little retail therapy on Via Fillungo, the main shopping street which runs through the historic centre.

Day 3 Montecatini Terme Driver’s Day Off
Today we explore Montecatini, the largest of Tuscany’s spa towns, at leisure. Many visitors are attracted by the variety of fine spas featuring treatments old and new as well as the many historic buildings, shops and the funicular railway to Montecatini Alto. It is here in Montecatini Alto that we suggest a visit to I Cipressini Olive Grove for an informative olive oil tasting experience.

Day 4 San Gimignano & Siena 260km/162 mile round trip
This morning we visit the medieval hill town of San Gimignano. Only 14 of its 72 towers remain yet the hilltop setting and encircling walls still provide it with an instantly recognisable skyline. After our morning visit, we continue to the beautiful medieval town of Siena.

Day 5 Viareggio & Pisa 135km/84 mile round trip
This morning, we head towards Viareggio, a thriving coastal resort with a long beachside promenade lined with shops and cafes. After enjoying lunch at one of the many fine seafood restaurants, we travel to Pisa famous for its leaning tower - one of Italy’s most recognisable buildings. The tower has now been preserved from leaning any further and it is once again possible to climb to the top for a spectacular view of the city below. The neighbouring cathedral is also one of the most beautiful in Tuscany and will undoubtedly take your breath away with its grandeur and detail.

Day 6 Departure
We begin our journey home.
