Verona, Venice & Venetian Villas

This Veneto tour is based at our historic hotel located just outside the old city walls of Bassano del Grappa. We explore the Veneto region taking in the medieval cities of Verona and Venice and Venetian Villas, finished off with a glass of Grappa – what else?!

Paul says...
“What a location! History oozes from the characterful Hotel Bonotto, located just a stone’s throw from the stunning medieval centre of Bassano del Grappa, with its pretty piazzas and iconic bridge."
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel before dinner.

Day 2 Verona
This morning we travel to romantic Verona, one of Italy’s oldest cities, and the fictional home of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. We visit Juliet’s balcony and admire the beautiful Roman amphitheatre, home to world-famous opera productions. We can enjoy lunch in the Piazza Bra, the largest piazza in Verona, lined with numerous cafés and restaurants. Verona is a shoppers' paradise with something for everyone, from the daily market in Piazza delle Erbe, where there are plenty of bargains to be found and a great selection of local produce, to the stylish designer shops at Via Mazzini.

Day 3 Venetian Villas
We begin our morning with a visit to Veneto’s best kept secret, Asolo, the “City of a Hundred Horizons”, named due to its scenic setting. We have some free time here to uncover this picturesque old town that was an inspiration for many poets, writers, artists and travellers. We then head to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Villa Barbaro, also known as the Villa di Maser, one of Andrea Palladio’s masterpieces. We visit the 6 rooms open to the public in the Villa before enjoying a tasting of three Villa di Maser wines accompanied with cheese and salami. Please note, for groups larger than 30, the group will be split due to the size of some rooms within the Villa.

Day 4 Bassano del Grappa Driver’s Day Off
Today we can enjoy Bassano del Grappa at leisure. Enjoy learning about and sampling the location’s namesake at Grapperia Nardini, just a 10 minute stroll from the hotel and located on the famous Ponte Vecchio, a 13th century wooden bridge stretching over the River Brenta. We return to the hotel early afternoon and learn how to make a real Aperol spritz!

Day 5 Venice
We make our way to Tronchetto this morning, from where we take a water bus to St Marks Square in Venice, where we spend the rest of the day exploring at leisure. Stunning architecture and a labyrinth of mysterious passageways await in the alluring city built on a lagoon. Explore the Grand Canal, reflecting the glories of Venetian architecture lining its banks, the Gothic Palazzo Ducale, Doge’s Palace and the Basilicas of San Marco and Santa Maria della Salute. Venture further into the back streets and discover churches and museums lined with priceless marble and antique treasure aplenty, and, of course, take a ride in one of the world-famous gondolas, before we return by water taxi to Tronchetto.

Day 6 Departure
After breakfast we begin our journey home.
