This tour is a wonderful combination of Yorkshire’s iconic sights including ancient castles, stately homes and scenic walled cities and towns – all steeped in history. Discover the walled spa town of Harrogate and enjoy seeing the city of York from the river with a fascinating cruise on the River Ouse. Explore one of England’s finest estates in Yorkshire, Harewood House with its contemporary art and exquisite gardens.
PACKAGED ITINERARY
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.
Day 2 Harewood House & Harrogate
This morning we make our way to Harewood House and have a House Tour prior to the House opening. We then have free time to explore the house & gardens before making our way to the Harewood Suite located in the Courtyard to enjoy a lunch of soup & sandwiches finished with homemade scones with jam and cream with tea/coffee. In the afternoon we make our way to the Victorian spa town of Harrogate. We may wish to visit the grade II listed Royal Pump Room Museum, browse the various independent and well-known shops, sip a cuppa in the famous Bettys Café Tea Rooms, or even pamper ourselves with a visit to the luxurious Turkish Baths.
Day 3 York & City Cruise
We spend today in the timbered city of York, beginning with a fantastic York City Cruise. We sit back and relax, taking in the sights of the city and hearing entertaining and informative commentary as we sail the River Ouse. The rest of the day is free in York. An ancient and compact walled city, York can be explored on foot. We can stroll ‘The Shambles’, one of the best-preserved medieval streets in the world, whilst the magnificent Minster is well worth a visit along with the state-of-the-art Undercroft Museum, located in chambers underneath the cathedral. There’s also the National Railway Museum, showcasing over 300 years of railway history, and the JORVIK Viking Centre, which delves into the sights and sounds of Viking York.
Day 4 Ripley Castle & Ripon
This morning, we head to Ripley Castle, where we will have a guided tour of the Castle before enjoying a cream tea and time at leisure to explore the Gardens. Please note access to the Castle is upon application & subject to availability. Early afternoon we head to Ripon. There is much to do and enjoy in this thriving little city, from the magnificent cathedral and market square, with its streets and ‘snickets’ spreading outwards, to the Workhouse & Garden Museum & racecourse.
Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we make our way home.
