Itinerary

PACKAGED ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Grassington, Skipton & Canal Cruise
Our first visit is to Grassington, the beating heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Familiar to some, the bustling cobbled market square set against a backdrop of the beautiful Dales was also used as the fictional market town of TV’s All Creatures Great & Small. Our next stop is delightful Skipton. We embark on a leisurely 3-hour return canal cruise along the beautiful Leeds Liverpool Canal, complete with commentary and ploughman’s lunch on board. With time at leisure, we can browse the weekly market, picturesque quay and canal towpaths running through the centre of town. Upon our return, we can have time at leisure in Skipton before returning to our hotel with time at leisure to explore the local area.
Day 3 Wensleydale Railway & World of James Herriot
This morning, we travel to Leeming Bar to board the Wensleydale Railway for a scenic railway journey to Leyburn, the Station used in the show, known as the Herriot Country Line. Afterwards, we   travel to Askrigg, a TV location of the fictional town and pub; Darrowby and the Drovers Arms. Later, we head to Thirsk for free time and to enjoy a nostalgic look around The World of James Herriot. Home of the famous vet, this is where James Herriot worked and wrote his books, the inspiration for the 1975 film ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ and the various TV series.

Day 4 Hawes, Wensleydale Creamery & Sheepdog demonstration
This morning, we make our way to Hawes to visit the Wensleydale Creamery where we will learn about the history of Wensleydale cheese, watch a cheese-making demonstration, peak inside the creamery in our viewing gallery before enjoying a guided cheese tasting. We then have some time in Hawes, a bustling market town since 1307. Later in afternoon, we visit Richard Fawcett, a local farmer and sheepdog handler for a working sheepdog demonstration.
