Day 2 Historic Triangle (Hoorn-Medemblik-Enkhuizen)
This morning we drive to Hoorn for a full day ‘Historic Triangle’ adventure starting with a one-way steam train journey to Medemblik through pretty villages and the Dutch countryside. We explore Medemblik’s historic centre and harbour before we hop aboard our historic motor ship for a cruise to Enkhuizen. Enjoy a Dutch styled lunch and soak up the endless views of the former Zuiderzee sea. We disembark in Enkhuizen to visit the fascinating Zuiderzee Museum to learn about life by the Zuiderzee sea in bygone times. We can lend craftsmen a hand, meet the locals, and walk down the cobbled streets. This afternoon, we have leisure time to discover the historic town.
Day 3 Amsterdam
We enjoy a full day at leisure in Amsterdam, the vibrant capital of the Netherlands. Known for its historic buildings, fascinating museums and lovely canals. Head to the Museumplein Square where the famous museums are located. The Van Gogh Museum houses the largest collection of works by Vincent Van Gogh; the Rijksmuseum showcases 800 years of Dutch history in a purpose-built neo-Gothic palace; and the Stedelijk Museum is dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Or head to the fabulous Concertgebouw concert hall with its stunning acoustics or the Anne Frank House for an insight into the life of the young wartime diarist. For fun, visit the Heineken Experience for a taster or the magnificent Royal Palace Amsterdam to follow in the footsteps of royal guests. Enjoy the fantastic views from 22 floors up at the A’Dam Lookout tower or, for something more leisurely, stroll around the tranquil Vondelpark or simply sit back and enjoy a relaxing canal cruise.
Day 4 Cheese Tasting, Volendam & Zaandam
We start our day with an authentic taste of Holland, with a visit to Simonehoeve, a traditional cheese farm and clog factory, where we indulge in a fun cheese tasting contest with a prize for the winner! Afterwards, we spend some time at leisure in the picture-postcard fishing village of Volendam to explore and have lunch. This afternoon, we head to Zaandam and the beautifully preserved village of Zaanse Schans, with its authentic wooden houses, windmills, shops and museums.
