PACKAGED ITINERARY
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.
Day 2 Cochem & Moselle Cruise
This morning, we head to the Moselle Valley and the pretty riverside town of Cochem, from where we embark on a circular cruise along the Moselle River, enjoying views of Reichsburg Castle and the surrounding vineyards. After our cruise, we spend the rest of the day in Cochem at leisure, giving us time to explore the old town, made up of quaint squares, winding alleys, half-timbered buildings and imposing town gates, watched over by its magnificent 11th century Reichsburg Castle, a Gothic masterpiece perched on a rocky outcrop from where there are fantastic views.
Day 3 Boppard & River Rhine Cruise
This morning, we have free time to explore Boppard. With a 2,000-year history, discover the Old Town, romantic squares and many fascinating monuments including the Electoral Trier Castle, Severus Church or the intriguing Thonet Museum. Afterwards, we take a 2.5 hour circular cruise from Boppard through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley including wonderful views of the famous Loreley Rock and Rheinfels Castle. Sit back and relax, and take in all the incredible sights of many medieval castles, lush vineyards and the breathtaking Loreley Rock. To make it even more enjoyable, we will be served coffee, cake and a glass of sparkling wine. (Please note that this day is ideal for a driver’s day off).
Day 4 Vulkan Express & Koblenz
Today we travel to Brohl for a one-way journey on the Vulkan Express, a unique narrow gauge railway. The line meanders up through the Brohl Valley into the Eifel Hills, where dramatic rock formations were created during a period of volcanic activity. Opened in 1901, the 11 mile journey takes 90 minutes as the locomotives reach a speed of 20 kilometres, climbing around 1,310 feet! This afternoon we continue to Koblenz for some free time. Situated where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet, options here include the cable car over the Rhine to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, the second largest preserved fortress in Europe, where we can take in the incredible views over Koblenz and enjoy time to explore the fortress at our own pace. Alternatively, the historic old town of Koblenz has plenty to offer.
