Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.
Day 2 Monmouth & Tintern Abbey
This morning we head for the historic market town of Monmouth in the heart of the beautiful Wye Valley. Famous for its iconic 13th century gatehouse bridge, the city has royal connections with Henry V and has been attracted visitors since the 17th century. Enjoy browsing the quirky shops for souvenirs and be sure to visit the Georgian Shire Hall & Museum. This afternoon we visit Tintern Abbey. Founded in 1311 by Cistercian monks, the Gothic abbey is in a picturesque wild setting on the riverbank.
Day 3 Tredegar House & Gardens & Cardiff
This morning, we visit the delightful Tredegar House & Gardens situated near Newport. Tredegar House is one of the finest 17th century properties in Britain. Home to some of the most important families in Wales’ history, it has dazzling state rooms, marvellous panelling, and a bold red-brick façade surrounded by acres of lovely grounds. This afternoon, we have free time in the vibrant city of Cardiff to explore its wide range of attractions and learn more of its culture. Or stroll around the city’s ornate Victorian and Edwardian arcades with many independent shops and cafes.
Day 4 Dean Forest Railway & Chepstow
Today we soak up the beautiful local scenery with a heritage steam train journey on the Dean Forest Railway from Norchard. Running through beautiful woodland countryside of the Forest of Dean, our train journey will include stops at two traditional stations with opportunities to take plenty of photos of the spectacular train. To make the journey complete, we will have a special included treat of an onboard cream tea. This afternoon, we enjoy free time in the lively town of Chepstow, a wonderful combination of ancient and modern, famed for its Norman castle overlooking the River Wye.
Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we make our way home.
