Day 2 Urk & Schokland Museum
This morning, we are visiting Urk, a dynamic, traditional fishing village situated on the shore of the IJsselmeer lake. You will be joined by an experienced local guide, for a walking tour through the narrow ‘ginkies’ (alleys), skirt the historic harbour area with its old fishing smacks, before passing small fishing cottages. Next, we enjoy a guided tour of Schokland Museum. The museum tells the special story of a centuries-old location: from the Ice Ages to the drainage of the Noordoostpolder. It is not surprising that in 1995, Schokland was declared the first UNESCO World Heritage site of the Netherlands.
Day 3 Paleis Het Loo
Today, we are visiting the stunning 17th-century Paleis Het Loo, originally built for the Dutch Royal family, which is surrounded by breathtaking gardens considered among the finest in Europe. Step inside the rooms once lived in by Willem III and Mary Stuart II and experience a glimpse of royal life. The palace offers two self-guided tours of the royal rooms, which feature stories told by various historical characters that bring the rooms and their history to life. It’s a must-visit destination where you can explore both the palace and its gardens.
Day 4 Museum Batavia Land & Batavia Stad Fashion Outlet
We begin our morning at Museum Batavia Land in Lelystad and discover the history of Flevoland and the Netherlands. Admire shipwrecks, board the Batavia*, an authentic VOC ship reconstruction, and experience old crafts at the shipyard. In the afternoon, we visit Batavia Stad Fashion Outlet where you can shop at over 250 brands collections and discounts up to 70%. Between shopping, you can grab a bite to eat and a drink in one of the cafés, restaurants or food trucks.
*Please note that the Batavia is an authentic reconstruction of a 17th-century ship and therefore not accessible to wheelchairs. Visitors with mobility problems should note narrow passages, steep stairs and low ceilings.
