Grand Imperial Cities of Europe

From the ancient spires of graceful Prague, to the maze of streets that make up Budapest, to the elegance of Vienna, this tour sparkles with the sort of Imperial history that is captured in the stunning treasures of some of Europe's most beautiful cities.
Day 1 UK - West Germany
Relax as you travel from the UK to our overnight hotel in West Germany.

Day 2 Leipzig via Schloss Marienburg
Today we will travel to the charming historical city of Leipzig in the former East Germany where famous composers such as Bach, Mendelssohn and Wagner created their classical masterpieces. En route, we will visit the enchanting Schloss Marienburg, one of Germany's most significant monuments built in neo-gothic style.

Day 3 Prague via Dresden
Today we will make our journey to Prague via the beautifully reconstructed city of Dresden. Inextricably linked to WWII, Dresden may have suffered, but rebuilding has spawned a startling silhouette of domes, spires and stately buildings that display the best of German architecture and resilience.

Day 4 Prague Driver’s Day Off
This morning we will have a 2 hour guided walking tour of beautiful Prague, through the towers and spires enjoying a city that has aesthetic and historical pleasures on every corner. Don't miss the Astronomical Clock or the Gothic revival cathedral of St. Vitus. The Czech Republic is also home to some of the world’s finest breweries, and after your tour you may well find yourself sipping a famed national brew such as Budweiser Budvar in one of the city’s many bars or cafés.

Day 5 Prague
Spend more time in the enchanting city of Prague, but this time on water, by taking a 2 hour river cruise on the Vltava, which bisects the city. From the river you will be able to gaze at the Charles Bridge, lined with its evocative statues of saints.

Day 6 Prague - Budapest
Sit back and admire the landscape of Eastern Europe as we leave Prague and make our way south into Hungary to arrive at our hotel in Budapest.

Day 7 Budapest Driver’s Day Off
This morning we will explore two cities in one as we have a 2 hour guided walking tour of Budapest. Divided by the Danube, you will be spoilt for choice in this delightful city that is made up of traditional Buda (West) and cosmopolitan Pest (East). Whichever part of the city you choose to explore you will find Art Nouveau coffee houses and Imperial architecture that survived the Communist era.

Day 8 Budapest - Vienna
Travel from Budapest to Vienna where we will spend the next three nights.

Day 9 Schönbrunn Palace & Vienna
Today we visit the stunning Schönbrunn Palace. We will enjoy a guided tour to help us find our bearings, with the opportunity to see inside the luxurious interiors and explore some of the 1,441 rooms, which are filled with magnificent chandeliers, beautiful ceiling frescoes and stunning gold decoration. In the afternoon, enjoy sightseeing in this memorable city at leisure.

Day 10 Spanish Riding School & Vienna
Today we will visit the famous Spanish Riding School, where elegant Lipizzaner stallions have enchanted royalty and tourists alike with their perfect dressage for 450 years. To get an insight into the years of training of the Lipizzaners and their riders, we take in the Morning Exercise which is accompanied by classical Viennese music. We complete our visit with a unique 60 minute guided tour through the various locations that make up the special charm of this historic institution. The rest of the day can be spent exploring more sights in Vienna.

Day 11-13 UK via Ulm & Reims
We leave Vienna and make our way back to the UK via the German city of Ulm which has stood on the Danube since the year 850 AD, and Reims, the capital of France’s Champagne region.
