SUGGESTED ITINERARY
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.
Day 2 Salzburg
We spend today in the regional capital of Salzburgerland and the home of ‘The Sound of Music’, historic Salzburg. The old town is a maze of charming pedestrian alleyways with many famous and historic landmarks. To enable us to get our bearings, we enjoy a 2-hour guided walking tour before exploring the city at leisure.
Day 3 Kirchberg in Tirol Driver’s Day Off
Today we enjoy relaxing at our hotel, making use of the leisure facilities and exploring the pretty town of Kirchberg in Tirol, located where the Spertental Valley enters the Brixental valley. We can also make use of the local train station, which is just 5 minutes’ walk from our hotel, with services to the famous resort towns of Kitzbühel and St Johann.
Day 4 Berchtesgaden & Eagle’s Nest
This morning, we travel to the mountain resort of Berchtesgaden and visit the location of Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest, perched 6,000ft high on top of the Obersalzberg mountain. Since 1952, the building has been open to the public as a mountain top restaurant offering the most spectacular views across the region. Please note: due to its unusually high elevation, the Eagle’s Nest is only accessible by special mountain buses running from Obersalzberg
and is open from mid-May to October, depending on weather conditions.
Day 5 Zell am See
Today we have a full day excursion to the delightful resort of Zell am See, nestling on the lakeshore, surrounded by mountains, as lovely in summer as they are covered in snow when they come alive with skiers. There is much to entertain and occupy us here, from a delightful boat cruise on the lake, taking in the whole panorama from the water to the choice of cable car rides up the Schmittenhöhe Mountain that overlooks the town, for some simply stunning views back down and beyond. Or simply enjoy the pretty town itself with its shops, cafés and restaurants serving food typical of the region, or wander down to the lake side for a relaxing stroll.
Day 6 Departure
After breakfast, we begin our journey home.
