Itinerary

PACKAGED ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Causey Farm Experience, Lunch & Leisure Time at Bloomfield House
Today, we experience life on a traditional working Irish farm at the family run Causey Farm. We get the chance to be Irish for the day by throwing ourselves into activities such as making soda bread, playing an Irish drum, enjoying a Sheepdog Demo, trying Irish Dancing and experiencing life with the farm animals. All followed by a delicious lunch of Beef & Guinness Stew, scones with jam and cream, tea/coffee. We return to our hotel to make the most of this fabulous 4-star hotel, in such a lovely setting.

Day 3 Strokestown Park House & Gardens
On our visit today, we discover Strokestown Park nestled in beautiful County Roscommon, where we take a guided tour of this stunning Georgian Palladian Mansion. The National Famine Museum is also within the grounds, and we have the chance to learn the tragic history of the Great Irish Famine and the devasting impact in Irish history. There will be time for a stroll around the walled gardens and have a bite to eat before we return to our hotel.

Day 4 Shed Distillery & Carrick-on-Shannon Cruise
This morning, we travel to Drumshanbo to visit The Shed Distillery, the home of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin and Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey. We learn more about this authentic distillery as we are treated to a guided tour and tastings of whiskey and gin. We have free time in Athlone for lunch, a pretty town on the border of County Roscommon and County Westmeath, perched on the banks of Ireland’s Shannon River. We can explore the medieval castle with lovely views or the town’s little lanes lined with pretty painted houses, old pubs and characterful shops. Afterwards, we make our way to the marina to board our Pleasure Cruiser for a relaxing 1-hour cruise on the mighty River Shannon, including tea/coffee and scones. We enjoy on-board entertainment and guided commentary before returning to dry land.

Note: Galway is another option, easily reached via the M6 motorway. The journey takes approximately two hours each way, making it a convenient day trip destination.

Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we make our way home.
